The workshop topics vary for different grade levels.

    Grades 1 & 2: Litter Bug
Students will learn what litter is, where we find it, how it effects the environment and how we can prevent litter problems. Hands-on activities include a litter sorting game, learning how to sort waste items and creating a poster.

    Grades 3 & 4: The 3Rs and Beyond
Using the 3Rs, students will learn about making less waste and create a commercial to teach others about how easy it is to reduce, reuse and recycle. A follow-up activity for students to complete at school or home is included.

    Grades 5 & 6: What is Waste?
Students will do a waste audit of their classroom waste, learn to sort their waste into the correct container and see how long it takes for waste to decompose. A follow-up activity for students to complete at school or home is included.

The workshops are approximately 1 hour long (adjustable to fit your schedule) and is only $60! To keep costs low, and reduce transportation emissions, please book at least 2 workshops per day.

“Waste Watchers workshop was a hands-on presentation that allowed the students to see first-hand what is going into the garbage and it made the students think about how to improve their waste management.” St. Joachim Grade 4 teacher

With every workshop, teachers will receive a resource package with further information on the topics covered in the workshop as well as activities and assignment ideas to continue their students engagement with the topic.

The classroom workshop is designed to meet curriculum needs while teaching students about being responsible for their waste. At the same time the workshop and information will be help schools earn EcoSchools points.
